Welcome to the WKND

Highway Youth runs from 6:30-9pm every Friday night during the school term - at both Highway Ormeau and Gilston.

We also encourage all our youth to come along to our Fusion services: 4:30-7pm at Highway Ormeau on the first Sunday of every month.

  • Your first time at Highway Youth!

We're so glad you're joining us for the first time. Here's a quick rundown of what to expect when you arrive:

First, head to the dedicated New Person sign-in lane. Our team will be there to greet you and help you fill out a short registration form. After you've signed in, we'll give you a VIP wristband that gets you free food from our café and one of our friendly team members will give you a tour.

    A note for parents

While it's not a requirement for parents to stay for drop-off, we do ask that you fill out our more in-depth online enrolment form that will get texted to your young person afterward the service to make sure we have all the important details. If you'd like a tour of our facilities, just let one of our team members know!

their answers right here.

  • Who can come to youth?

Highway Youth is a high school youth ministry and accepts everyone from grades 7-12!

If you no longer attend school (e.g. doing a full-time trade, etc), but are high school aged - you’re welcome too!

Highway Youth has a strict child-protection policy and as such we cannot have parents, or any adults over 18 attend our Friday night services.

We are happy to show parents a short tour of our facility if requested.

  • Is there food at youth?

We run a cafe at Highway Youth, as well as a milkshake bar!

At the cafe we sell food like hot chips, chicken nuggets, meat pies, sausage rolls, and more. Prices range from as little as $2.

Thirsty? We also sell cans of soft drink and milkshakes for $3.

All youth are eligible for free food from the cafe on their first night! Talk about a steal!

  • What if my child has a medical condition or allergies?

When you check your child into a Highway Youth program for the first time, you will be sent a link to an in-depth Enrolment form which includes medical information and other notes that may be needed for your teenager on subsequent visits. We also have a trained team member nominated to supervise first aid during every service.

  • Is there a cost involved?

No, Highway Youth will always be free. We occasionally will offer additional programs that may have a cost - but we do our best to keep these costs to a minimum.

  • Can I get a lift to youth?

We offer lifts to and from youth!

Our amazing youth leaders love picking up students who couldn’t otherwise get to youth.

If you are able to get a safe lift to/from youth - please do so, so we can focus on picking up students who don’t.

  • What is your screening process for leaders?

We regard the safety of children as our highest priority. All leaders must complete a Volunteer Application Form and apply for a Working with Children's Check (Blue Card). The references and background of each applicant are carefully checked to ensure they are suitable to be working with children. Our leaders and volunteers also receive ongoing training in Child Safety Procedures.

  • Safe Church Statement

Highway Church is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people that attend our services, events and programs. As part of this commitment, we adhere to the ACC Child Protection Policy and ensure the training and education of our staff and volunteers are in line with the policy.

The policy provides guidelines to volunteers, leaders and staff on how to promote care, safety and protection of children and young people as well as how to respond to and deal with sensitive situations involving children and young people.

We also work closely with government agencies with regard to Working with Children Checks, Child Safe Standards (including best practices) and adhere to the relevant reporting requirements where required.
