In this season, when we celebrate the birth of Jesus, it is good to be reminded of the reason for His birth. When God created humankind, He knew that we would rebel against him in sin. But it did not stop His love for us. He had a plan for our salvation.

Revelation 13:8 says that Jesus was slain before the foundation of the world. This means Jesus was born to die for our sins. This is at times hard for us to understand, but it explains the love of Jesus to us for Him to be prepared to do it.

When John the Baptist saw Jesus, he recognised who he was and declared,

“Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29

There is no reason for us to carry the burden and guilt of our sin. Instead, we need to behold God’s provision for our wrongs. The word behold means ‘to take notice’. May we not get side-tracked but take notice of the Lamb of God because He wants us to enjoy this special season and celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Prayer: Lord, help me to slow down in this season and “take notice” of the reason you came, and that you came for me.
