One of Jesus’ favourite names for himself was the Son of Man. This name highlights his humanness. Though it may have more than one meaning, to me, it suggests His compassion, empathy, and deep love for humanity.

“He wept.”

John 11:35

This famous piece of scripture is from when Jesus’ dear friend, Lazarus, had passed away. The passage shows a man (though fully God) feeling profound sorrow. It demonstrates that Jesus understands grief, and it shows His deep love for humanity. Whether you are close or feel distant, the Son of Man cares for you.

Surely, he took up our pain and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.

Isaiah 53:4-5

Jesus, in his humanness, cares for humanity. He carries our infirmities and our sorrows while leaving peace and healing in their place.

You may be in need of this tender and peaceful love right now, so if this is the case, I encourage that Jesus is in the midst of everything you’re facing. You’re not alone. He is with you.

If you are at a place where you can share this peace and healing, I encourage you to allow your Christ-like humanness to show. Unleash your true depth of love and empathy for others. Let it move you to bring peace and healing to those around you.
