“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.” Revelation 22:13

Think about the last epic story you heard or the last movie you watched. Each had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Have you ever considered human history an epic tale with a beginning, middle, and end?

John’s gospel tells us that Jesus existed at the beginning. He writes that through him, everything was created, and his life bought light to everyone and then, in John 1:15, he explains that Jesus became human and made His home among us. Jesus was crucified and died before defeating death through his resurrection. Jesus defeated death and sin, the things that were keeping humankind separated from God, to give us free access to God. Jesus ascended to heaven and promised to return one day so that we could be with him. Revelation 22:13 tells us that Jesus is the Beginning and the End.

Christmas is a time of reflection, a time to rejoice and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ into human history. For some, this time of year can be challenging because of past disappointments, mistakes and failures. But be encouraged that if you are reading this, your story hasn’t ended yet! Jesus came to give us life! If you feel like things in your life are dead and buried, take heart! There is time in your story for an epic comeback and triumphant finish with Jesus.

As Christmas approaches, let’s choose to meditate on the gift of life and light that Jesus has brought into our lives. Let’s marvel at the power and grace that’s marked by His birth. Let’s be assured that no matter how we are feeling or what we might be facing, that Jesus is our Beginning and End, our rock, our comforter, our fulfilment.
